Navdikar Musicals was established in 1994 by Mr. Hemkant Navdikar a young talented musician and a Tabala Wizard.  His uncle Pt. Babanrao Navdikar was a renowned singer of yesteryears. Hemkant learnt Tabala initially from P. G.L. Samant, Pune. Afterwards he recieved training and guidence from Pt. Sadashiv Pawar and Pt. Arvind Mulgaokar, both disciples of doyen of Farookhabad , Late Khaleepha Ustad Ameer Hussain Khan. 

                  

Hemkant is  AIR and Doordarshan artist. Hemkant has performed as an accompanist and as a solo artist in almost all places of Maharashtra and outside as well. He has accompanied many renowned artists of Indian Classical Music like Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt.K.G.Ginde, Pt. Janorikar, Pt. Gajendrgadkar, Smt. Reeta Ganguly, Smt. Arti Ankalikar, Smt. Jayamala and Keerti Shiledar to name a few. Hemkant started a store of musical instruments with a specific view in mind. Hemkant being musician received good response within a short period.

 

Hemkant has achieved expertise in carefully repairing the instruments and manufacturing few of them. Tuning the Harmonium, making the Tanpura and Sitar Juari are his fields of specialty. Hemkant has also mastered the art of making Bamboo Flutes. Eminent flutists of the country have praised the Flutes made by him. Recently he was awarded with the fellowship from the Central Government for the ‘Manufacturing of Harmonium’. Also the Harmoniums made by him have been praised by best Harmonium players in the country. Being a musician himself Hemkant knows better way the instruments from the user end. Therefore the quality of the instruments available in the shop is always different and obviously better. 

 

In these fourteen years Navdikar Musicals has organised many remarkable events like music concerts, seminars and  music competitions. Amongst them Guitar competitions, audio visual programme on Pt. D.V.Paluskar by Pt. Sharad Sathe, Tabala Solo by Master Yashwant Vaishnav and gazal concert by Master Ranajit Panwar were highly praised by music connoisseurs. Today Navdikar Musicals serves music lovers and artists through three outlets in Pune, first at Tliak Road, Kothrud & now recently in Chinchwad.
